The Season for Seniors drive is our way of supporting the elderly in the Bronkhorstspruit area and surrounding communities. Many of these seniors live in old age homes, without family or friends to visit them. Some have been sadly abandoned, while others have relatives who simply cannot afford to care for them.

For those fortunate enough to receive a state pension, the amount is roughly ZAR 2 310. Most of this is paid to the home for board and lodging, leaving very little for personal items. Everyday essentials that many of us take for granted, such as a face cloth, toothpaste, or a box of tissues, hold immense value for those in need and help restore dignity and worth to people who might otherwise feel forgotten.

Last year, thanks to the incredible generosity of our supporters, we were able to put together over a hundred gift bags filled with essential items. The gratitude from the recipients was overwhelming and served as a reminder of how fortunate most of us are. This year, we aim to do even more.

Items we are collecting for 2025 include:
• Box of tissues
• Toilet paper
• Body lotion
• Face cloth
• Bar of soap
• Toothpaste
• Packet of soft sweets
• Long life milk carton
• Packet of biscuits

In addition to the gift bags, African Hills NPC hosted a Christmas lunch for the seniors who visited the venue in 2024. It was a day eagerly anticipated by all, offering a rare chance to leave the confines of the old age home. They received a warm welcome from our staff and volunteers, followed by a tractor ride around the farm to visit the children at the African Blessings Children’s Village.

A highlight of the day was watching them interact with the animals at our Animal Sanctuary. The comfort of a furry friend is so often missing in these old age homes, and it was truly touching to witness the happiness this simple connection brought. Moments like these are a powerful reminder of the impact we can have when we come together as a community.

For 2025, we are focusing on creating even more gift bags and hosting a Christmas tea and cake in the afternoon, while still offering the much-loved Animal Sanctuary visit.
